Reunion

It's been about a year or so since I last looked at xanga since I've been dealing with the end of school, family, facebook, and college. For anyone who is still using xanga, I'm working it Rann Pharmacy in the heart of Harleysville until I leave for UArts to study as a fine arts major. After I finish those four years, I'll continue to study until I recieve my teachers certificate so I can teach art in the city. Thank you Mr. Swartz for your influence on my life, you've helped me make some pretty important decisions. My family is currently struggling with some health issues, those close to me know what I'm talking about, so it's been pretty hard to go through daily life, but we're all doing the best we can. I got a tattoo of a gecko on my back as a memorial for my family, hopefully it can turn into a family symbol that my kids will get too. I think that'd be neat: "So you say you're the great grandson of Isaac Ruth? Prove it!" See, it could come in handy.

It's hot outside.

Costa Rica

(it´s been a long time since I posted, so enjoy yourselves)
MSEC was amazing, I must say. Though our director was a bit of a penis head, he really did teach us the music. Adriel and Ingrid, thank you very much for allowing me to pester you through the entire bus ride home. Ben, sorry for the kick in the balls, as hilarious as it was. Sarah, you´re pretty and I enjoy our crossword puzzles, even if I am terrible at them. Dan, our blues song "Dragon Dog" rocks. I can´t wait to get home and perform it. Any of you who I haven´t mentioned and should, I love you. Now, on to Costa Rica...
First of all, let me go ahead and apologize to those of you who I left this past week. I hope to all things holy that you guys had a wonderful spring break and perhaps some of you hung out together while I was gone (Eli and Meg, chances are Im referring to you through this whole thing, I truly do hope you guys survived what would otherwise have been a fun filled adventure with me).
Costa Rica has been an interesting, if not delightfully frusterating, experience. My meals consist of large quantities of fruit and fish, usually served with a fried banana. To most of you, "fried banana" probably doesnt sound too apetizing, but letme assure you that its one of the most sickeningly sweet candies youll ever taste. It really is hard to describe other than saying that its a very hot, sweet, banana (Yes Eli and Geri, we must try to combine one of these with peanut butter and turn it into a sandwich). Ive come to question how my brother Sam managed to survive these circumstances while he lived in Mexico city with my mom (this is a guy who dislikes most fruits and fish, specifically bananas).
The most notably excrutiating thing that weve experienced has been our rides on the "Interbus" which, and I cannot stress this enough, are horrifying at best. Thats not really saying that I didnt enjoy myself at all, on the contrary I almost looked forward to it, but considering that each trip took from 2 to 6 hours through windy roads, frequently needing to stop suddenly because drunk men would leap out in front of us or dogs no longer wished to live, and hearing my sister get more and more car sick, it grew old fast. I shortly became convinced that each one of our destinations had a very direct route, maybe consisting of two or three turns, but our drivers were quite sure that we were here to see the sights, not reach destinations. Our first long voyage from our hotel to Volcan Arenal took around 4 hours. I was seated up front because our spanish speaking guide insisted that I should. I think that may have happened because he overheard me making small spanish talk with our bellhop, Senor Martinez, and figured that we may as well make conversation during the long ride. I ended up knowing (remembering) significantly more Spanish than I thought, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I was quite proud of myself when I succeeded in making a joke to out driver that, chances are, we wouldnt find a good beach at the volcano. I figured I did it correctly because he chuckled and made a wise crack back. Through my iffy spanish decoding, it was something about how the closest thing we would find to the beach was the lava flow, but, from his experience, we werent allowed in that.
I have to say that the music here has been less than pleasant. Each person we encounter seems to wish to enthrall us with his knowledge of Americans by playing whichever radio station has the most 80s rock. I dont mean to say that I didnt appreciate their efforts, but "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" has never been at the top of my "To Listen" list.
We fed monkeys. You know, the white faced ones from "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls"? Not only did we feed them, but they opened our hands to find the banana stuff we were hiding. It was the coolest moment of my life.
Well, I should end this. Im currently sitting in the computer lab of our hotel. Maddies still recovering from last night (shes very emotional when it comes to panhandlers and was horrified by the fact that we were approached by every other person asking for money). Were waiting for out autobus to arrive and take us (and the Boston couple who we seem to be attatched at the waist to) to the airport so we can come home. According to my best sources, Ill actually arrive at my house at 2 a.m. tomorrow morning (tuesday) and will be coming to school, so Ill see you all tomorrow. I dont have many souvenirs at all, Im afraid, since every souvenir place we went to was more expensive than I thought they would be.
Ill see you all soon and hope youre having a great time
